Discovering where in the world our community is located

The students blasted off from Earth in the space shuttle to discover where in the world our community is located. Once in space, the students had to find their way back to the community in which NASA placed the landing beacon by using visual discovery. The students analyzed satellite photographs to understand social studies vocabulary and concepts.

The students learned: we are in the Northern and Western Hemispheres, we live on the North American continent, our country is the United States, we live in the state of Maryland, we live in the city of Columbia,
and our community is the Village of Owen Brown.

The students also learned what the equator and the prime meridian is, as well as the definition of physical features.
